"Promised Land" by Brandon Dean @brandon_dean_author A compelling YA novel with strong protagonist. . Plot: In 1943, German forces invade and attack the US mainland. As Clint’s hometown is left in ruins, he is forced to adapt to this macabre new world. He finds himself doing things he normally wouldn’t even consider. Clint must conquer his deepest fears for the sake of his newborn baby sister, Violet, and the girl he learns to love, Hazel. What will happen when his own need for revenge and survival drive him in the opposite direction? . Brandon's debut holds the power to hook the readers right from the beginning through its writing style. The author sketches the situation and event with thoroughgoing descriptions. . The plot of the book is set against WWII which makes the story more enthralling. Promised Land doesn't hold back in scenes which brings the reader at the brink of crying. . Characterization is done thoughtfully with character traits that are realistic and relate able. Overall, the book is a great read, full of attention grabbing events, with absolute ending. One word description would be "captivating". . I would give this book 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 and would recommend it to readers who enjoy war themed books. Looking forward to future works of Brandon. .
